Starting in the summer of 2011, the Cheshire Medical Center Employee Wellness Committee and I have been planning and executing an elaborate mural project to beautify Stair Well A to encourage employees and visitors to take the stairs verses the elevator for the health benefits. The theme of the stair well is the Monadnock Region in which the hospital resides, starting with a view of a fluorite mine/cave at the ground level and working your way up to the top of Mt. Monadnock.

Though I am spear heading the creative side of the project, I am only responsible to painting the ground floor. The 2nd floor was painted by Katherine Thorell, who is a close friend and colleague and fellow deviant:

The third and fifth floor are "Employee Murals"....yeah. The employees are painting them. The same people who write your prescriptions, listen to your heart beat, coach your birthing, and operate on your brain are painting the murals! The way it works is I schedule painting sessions with one or two employees at a time for an hour or so, and instruct them on some cool techniques and color theory. I have already drawn out the design on the wall for them to follow, so in a lot of ways, it's like a big paint by numbers.

The fourth floor is being painted by Keene State College art student and fellow Deviant, Jacob Carignan:

This stair well is an ongoing project, so if you want to see progress images, I suggest "liking" my Facebook Studio page and following along! Facebook
