I began this painting in '08 in response to meeting my now husband, Vinny, who is a Shaolin Chuan Fa instructor. This painting was also for an Illustration final project for my sophomore year of college. Alas, between other class work, commissions and planning my wedding, it got put on the back-burner ....for 5 years! (thankfully my professor graded and passed the incomplete assignment!)(she was absolutely tickled when I sent her the finished product half a decade later- as I promised I would...eventually! lol)
Anyway, I re-envisioned many parts of this painting over the years and I know I am much more happy with the results over the original composition and detailing. The Dragon and Snake in particular underwent dramatic transformations as I began to re-visit this painting. Also, I began it in oils, but finished it in acrylic. No particular creative reasons, it's just less expensive, and I'll save my fancy stuff for the commishes.
This painting will have its first public debut at the Double Tree Hotel in Norwalk, Connecticut on May 18th, 2013 during the Grand Celebration SDSS (Steve DeMasco's Shaolin Studios) events including Black Belt testing, a Sai form clinic with the Grandmaster, and an Awards Ceremony and Banquet Dinner!
